All The Updates…Pisacafe, Homeschool, Referees, Shirts, and USA Fencing Membership
Ok, there’s a lot in here, so I’ll try to make it into bite size pieces for everyone:
Pre-Season/Fundraising Tournament
On August 30, 2025, we hosting several tournaments at our club. This is good for new fencers that haven’t done a competition before and for those veteran fencers getting ready for the season. All event registrations and donations will go to our competition and electric equipment for the season! Each event is $20, welcome to donate in addition if you like.
Here are the events: 9AM: Y10 Mixed Foil (Boys and Girls, born 2015-2018); 9AM: Y12 Mixed Foil (Boys and Girls, born 2011-2014); 12PM: Senior Men’s Foil (Born 2012 or earlier); 1PM: Senior Women’s Foil (Born 2012 or earlier); 3PM: Mixed Epee. You can view who’s currently registered or register yourself at: https://askf.red/nu1nt
Pisacafe Youth Circuit
The All-American Fencing Academy, Greensboro, Wilmington, and a number of small clubs in North Carolina host elementary and middle school events to encourage fencers to try tournaments outside of their own club. For every tournament a fencer participates in the circuit, they earn points based on their placement and how many fencers in the event. We’ve had fencers win because they attended all the events, even if they didn’t win the tournaments. We provide all the equipment needed to compete. The dates for the Pisacafe is now on the calendar: http://schedule.allamericanfencing.com
Homeschool Events
The homeschool tournaments don’t start until October, so we have some time. But typically there are individual (junior varsity) competitors (all ages combined), and team (varsity) competitors. This year, we’ve lost a number of our homeschool competitors that compete on the team or many that are not available. We’ll probably have a homeschool fencers meeting before the season starts to figure out who are competitors are. Homeschool events can be found at: http://schedule.allamericanfencing.com
Referee Clinic
We’ve also lost a number of our referees who graduated and are now in college! Some of our young fencers have been doing well refereeing in class, and we’d love to see you become rated referees. Rated or not, we hire our fencers to help referee non-sanctioned events. You will see some at our next tournament! There will be an in person official referee clinic at Apex Fencing Academy on September 21, 2025. In person clinics are always great! Information and registration can be found at: https://www.askfred.net/clinics/bbbf42f0-8a28-4d34-8d2d-826661bf7f8d Let me know if you have any questions about the referee clinic.
The 82ND Shirt!
On Thursdays, some of you may have seen Coach Gerhard’s 82nd Fencing Shirt. It was a design idea by one of our veteran fencers, Kevin DiCassio, so we made it into a reality! Some fencers had an interest in purchasing the shirt so it can be found here: https://checkout.square.site/merchant/CEN2CBWG5CZYJ/checkout/OTJZKKIJENFPKA7W5RUOCHRE
Today is the last day we’re taking orders, tomorrow, Friday, August 22, 2025, then we’ll send all the order requests to the printers! See our previous post for what the shirt looks like: https://allamericanfencing.com/referee-clinic-and-the-82nd-shirt/

Leftover: Private Lessons
As we begin tournament season, for any fencers, young and old, who are interested in getting weekly private lessons from Coach David. Let me know if you are interested and I will reach out to Coach David for his schedule. Several fencers have been taking private lessons with Coach David, both competitive and non-competitive. It’s a great addition to any fencers growth.
