The Importance of Experience

About a year ago, Sabrina, Victor, and Gabe all fenced at the Richmond North American Cup, and they had moderate success. Within a year, all three now have their E rating.

Part of improving and learning isn’t just classes, lessons, and in house tournaments. Sometimes you have to put yourself out there and sometimes you have to just take a beating. But you have to remember that when you lose, you have to learn.

Sabrina, Victor, and Gabe lost many on their road to their E rating. And they may lose many more on the long or short road to their D rating. But they can get there!

So if you are a competitive fencer and want to earn a rating, you have to be prepared to go to the big tournaments! You may win, you may lose, but you’ll always learn.

Congrats to all our fencers who have earned their rating over the past year. That is a big accomplishment for our little club!
