Updates: December and Tourney Schedules!
First, congrats to Caleb for fencing in his first regional event at The Southern RYC/RJCC in the Cadet Men’s Foil event. He had one win in his pools but lost his first elimination, finishing in 40th place.
Isabelle also fenced in the Y-14 Women’s Foil event, seeded 3 entering the event, 4 wins, 2 losses in the pool and for the first time in a national/regional event, defeated her first elimination round. Isabellel finished in 12th place.
Gabe was also home from college and competed in the Junior Men’s Foil placing 28th.
December Schedule Reminders
AAFA will be closed during the last week of December (December 27-31). Fortunately, most classes will have 4 class nights throughout December before the break.
There will be no classes from Monday, December 27, 2021-Friday, December 31, 2021 EXCEPT the Youth Class on Tuesdays at 6PM. The Tuesday Youth Class will still meet on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 6PM (there was no other date I could reschedule it to).
There will be no Teen/Adult class on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. Come on any Wednesday at 6:15pm in December for an additional class day.
2022 Tournament Schedule!
It’s been a while, but the North Carolina Division is starting to schedule their tournaments ahead of time again rather than playing it by ear. Now you can schedule these on your calendars! You can view the current schedule at: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MqXR3vqBczR10rnSajyHm0LQuR5huH1s/view?usp=sharing

More events will be added as other fencing clubs schedule their events. You can view all North Carolina events here: https://bit.ly/3yJca6e
Tournament Highlights:
Apex Novice Cup in January
Requires non-competitive USA Fencing membership. Good extra fencing competition experience.
Pisacafe Youth Circuit
All-American, Greensboro, and Wilmington are partnering for a 3 club youth circuit. Each club will be hosting a youth tournament, each tournament in itself is a separate tournament, but the circuit will also award points for each fencer based on number of fencers at the tournament and final placement. The youth fencer who earns the most points at the completion of the final circuit will be awarded a special prize. This was created to encourage more youth fencers to compete in a tournament outside of their club and to foster great competition and partnership between the Fayetteville, Greensboro, and Cape Fear Fencing Clubs. (Note: Why is it called the Pisacafe? Pisacafe is a portmanteau of Piedmont, Sandhills, and Cape Fear.) The circuit will last from January-March.
Home School Team Events
We are hosting one of the Home School Team Events. I’ve talked to several of you that are home schooling to participate. Definitely, we would like to field a team on January 29th. We need 3 fencers for a team, if we have 6, we can field 2 teams. North Carolina is hosting other home school team events, the home schoolers can discuss later if they want to participate in the others.
Our Unsanctioned Events:
There will be a Sunday event on January 30th! We have another unsanctioned event in February featuring an Adult Only Epee event, and a Mixed Foil event. Our last unsanctioned event we are hosting will be in May.
We are hosting a SANCTIONED Event!
On March 12th, we have been approved to host a sanctioned event. You need to make sure you have at least your Access USA Fencing Membership to participate in this event. This is a good opportunity to try to earn your first rating!
National Events
In March, there is a North American Cup in Richmond for Y10, Y14, and Veterans. Coach will most likely be attending with Isabelle. There will be a North American Cup in Charlotte in April. Isabelle will most likely compete. But it’s also a good opportunity to purchase equipment since many equipment suppliers are available on site for this North American Cup! There will be another Sectional/Regional Youth Circuit in Fredericksburg for Y8, Y10, Y12, Y14, Cadet, and Youth.
