A compilation of information, ideas, skills, drills, and resources to improve knowledge, technique and results for the sport of fencing. Ron Miller, Ph.D., M.d’A., was the retired head fencing coach for fifty-two Years at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC.
Coach desired to help others better understand the intricacies of fencing. Please consider high schools, colleges, and clubs in your area and purchase books for your coaches, athletes, referees, critical fencing personnel, and a copy for yourself.
Thank you for helping us spread his love for the sport of fencing. Susun and her children, Myah and Grey, have culle together files and pages of his beloved Excel files, charts, and drawings. Thank you also to Keith Lander for assisting with that task. Gerhard Guevarra pulled together Coach elements for the cover. Chris Haga has been instrumental in cheering on Susun as the team worked through the emotions of this project. Susun and staff went through weeks of applying for a copyright and then building the final hard copy. We hope you will treasure it. This is meant to be a workbook. We hope you will use it, write in it, and share it with your fencing family. We appreciate your support.

On Monday, former UNC fencing coach Ron Miller — who started the program in Chapel Hill — passed away at the age of 78.
Miller retired from coaching in 2019 after 52 years with the fencing program. When he got to UNC in 1967 as a physical education teacher, fencing was just a club sport. The athletic department had him focus on creating a varsity program.
