On Strip/At Home Series: May 2020, 1st Week, Fencing Class
Updates: North Carolina is looking to start phase 1 of re-opening this Friday. The fencing academy will be allowed to re-open in phase 2. How that will look like for us, we’re still trying to determine. But we’ll devote an e-mail for that later on as I continue to plan for our return.
Here’s the class video this week:

We did something a little different this week to change things up, that’s why this one is nearly 1.5 hours long. But the long part isn’t fencing. We decided to give you a chance to work on your refereeing skills. The skills we did here are a little beginner, but a good warm up for everyone.
Here’s a breakdown of the sections:
Remember, you can do the class in one shot, or you can do it by sections, and redo sections on other days.

Professional swordsman Dave Rawlings broke down 10 sword fights in movies and TV, critiquing their realism and technique. Rawlings has over 15 years’ experience teaching Western Swordsmanship. He has been featured in the documentary series “Warriors” and “Bloody Tales of the Tower.” He advised the Wallace Collection on its exhibition “The Noble Art of the Sword,” and he teaches longsword at the London Longsword Academy. Rawlings looked at the skill of Henry Cavill in “The Witcher” and Dwayne Johnson in “The Scorpion King.” He also critiqued the realism of historical and fantasy scenes from “The Mask Of Zorro,” “Gladiator” and “The Princess Bride.” He also rated sword fights in “Game of Thrones,” including Brienne of Tarth and Arya Stark, and Ned Stark and Jamie Lannister. He rated the samurai-sword skill of Keanu Reeves in “47 Ronin” and Uma Thurman in “Kill Bill: Volume 1.”He analyzed the principles of sword fighting in the “Die Another Day” fencing scene and the light saber fight in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”
