Phase 2 Return Plan
So firstly, I want to say that we still must maintain our awareness of how disease spreads and the preventive methods we can employ to limit the spread of COVID-19. I am cautious and anxious about our return.
If you don’t feel safe to return yet, I understand. We don’t have to RUSH back. I want to start slow, see how our classes look, and adjust fire if I need to.
I will continue our YouTube classes through June and probably through July too.
Please visit downtownfaystrong.com to see what you can take advantage of in Downtown Fayetteville during classes.
Other things to prepare for when you return: The parking lots have new machines. They can take coins, bills, AND credit/debit cards. Street side parking policies are still the same.
So, on to what you need to know:
————————-
**NOTE: If North Carolina Government does not move to Phase 2, these dates will not occur and we will re-adjust.
According to North Carolina Government:
Phase 1: May 8-May 22
Phase 2: Maybe as soon as May 22
IF North Carolina moves to Phase 2 on May 22nd:
All-American Fencing will open May 23 for warm up private lessons, and open fencing from 10am-1pm with the same policies outlined below.
Soft open restart classes on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 with the same schedule for ages and times we had before the closures.
Tuesdays at 6PM: Youth Fencing Class
Tuesdays at 7PM: Teen and Adult Fencing Class
Wednesdays at 6:15PM: Teen and Adult Fencing Class (Foil and Epee)
Wednesdays at 7PM: Beginner Fencing Class
The 40+ class will be scheduled by Coach Melea.
I want to see how many people start showing up when we restart classes. I’m guessing not everyone will immediately start coming back, if the class sizes are too large, I’ll have to split up classes and days.
I’m not going to sugar coat this, there is still a risk when we reopen.
Policies:
-If you’re sick or have a fever, stay home. We greatly appreciate our families that have done this in the past. It is imperative now more than ever we continue to be responsible.
-Self check! We encourage you to self check your temperature before coming to class! You don’t have to feel sick to have COVID-19, you can be carrying.
-Kids: When they arrive to class, find their equipment and have a seat where coach asks you to sit and wait! We will be limiting the regular kids play before class.
-Fencers will still observe alternatives to shaking hands if we bout. I may limit classes to bladework.
-To limit the number of people in the fencing room, we encourage our parents to wait in the vehicle, or enjoy Downtown Fayetteville’s businesses. Please observe social distancing as much as possible if you are in the fencing room. Our friends downstairs are kindly also letting us use the downstairs space we need more seating space.
-If you do stay in the fencing room, please try to maintain as much as possible social distancing.
-Spray seats with Lysol before sitting down.
-Please bring your own water. We will close off use of the water fountain for the time being.
-We will restructure my classes if there are many students in class so that we are all not on one side. You’ve seen us do it before by splitting the class into two sides to create more space.
-We will not plan activities and exercises that require and hand to hand contact. (So no Red Rover. 🙂 Or games like glove tag.
-I will have lysol spray for any club equipment. Please spray before and after use. However, we do encourage now to purchase your own mask and glove. Absolute Fencing Gear has a deal currently for a free glove with mask purchase.
-We will sanitize after every night of classes.
-We are encouraging the use of masks for both athletes and families that are in the fencing academy.
-Spray the fencing mask before and after you use it.
-Spray your weapon grip before and after you use it.
-We plan to have a bin for used jackets and gloves, you will not be returning jackets and gloves after use.
-Again, if possible, take advantage of the Absolute Fencing Gear’s free glove with mask purchase.
-Only one person in the electric equipment room at a time. Wipe down or spray weapons and body cords before returning them.
